Youth Express offers a range of career and transition support services to all schools in the Hunter Valley as part of our School Support Services available as a fee-for-service or sponsorship. Schools can purchase 100 points of services linked across career and transition, wellbeing, STEM and vocational education support topics.
Career and Transition support is available to prepare young people for the world of work. These services are designed to support Career Education and VET programs to encourage successful transitioning of students from school to further education and employment. Events include:
Career Quests– Career Quest’s offer students the opportunity to investigate and learn about different industries, careers and the pathway options available through training and further education. Local industry leaders offer their time to present a short showcase of their personal employment pathway, industry expectation’s, barriers faced and the career opportunities that are available in their current industry.
Work Inspirations– Work Inspiration is a 1 day event that connects employers and schools through industry tours. It enables students and educators to gain from the wisdom and traditions within business and industry. Work Inspiration provides career development, work based learning and employability skills development for young people. It engages students with direct exposure to and interaction with a range of employment role and career pathways. It can be tailored to specific or broad industry areas including:
- Connect with curriculum
- STEM / VET / Arts
- Women in Industry
- Entrepreneurship
- Social Enterprise
Work Preparation– Work Preparation is a 1 day classroom workshop covering a series of employability skills students need to know. 3 staff break students in the class up into small groups to cover key topics. These are interactive sessions aimed to provide students valuable skills that work towards a successful Work Placement opportunity. These sessions are particularly appropriate for students studying VET courses. Sessions are focused on presentation and communication for the workplace and cover areas such as:
- Appropriate clothing and footwear for different industries
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Body language and attitude
- Introducing yourself to a Work Placement supervisor or prospective employer
- Communicating effectively in the workplace (students role play appropriate and inappropriate communication)
- Work Health and Safety and Equal Employment in the workplace power point presentation.

- How to get the job workshops and job seeking assistance job application writing
Teacher Professional Learning- 1 day Industry interaction/ networking days. These days include interaction sessions with local businesses (typically onsite) where teachers have the opportunity to update their industry knowledge skills. The Interaction/networking days also offer teachers the opportunity to network with other teachers in the region and regional Vocational Education Coordinators.
STEM Shack –Make Me Move 1x day STEM Workshops.
Supporting aspirations in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math with a Mobile Resource Caravan. Activties provide access to equipment including VR, drones, and robotics linked with industry showcases to promote jobs of the future.
The STEAM Shack is designed to raise awareness of changing technological requirements in employment and to support young people, educators, parents and carers to engage in STEAM based learning and skill development.
Validate Me (V-Me)- 8x 1 hour Mentoring Support Sessions.
Designed at raising Gen Z’s levels of accountability and providing them with skills to rely on their own sense of self rather than seeking external validation. This creates awareness around their own abilities and strengths and in doing so reduces the level of entitlement Gen Z have embraced.
This service can be delivered to a group or a one-on-one basis and incorporates all aspects of young people’s goals and dreams.
Options include: soft skill development, problem solving, conflict management, effective work habits and skills for professional growth across 8 core topics:

Skills for Life- is a series of 8 x 1 hour workshops delivered to small groups of targeted youth in need of additional help transitioning to adulthood. Schools customize their own program to suit their school’s needs, selecting from a suite of topics coordinated by Youth Express and led by industry volunteers:
- Transport: buying a car, car ownership, maintenance and servicing
- Housing: tenancy rights, responsibilities and rental search
- Work prepration: job search, apprenticeships and employment
- Financial management: budgets, loans, & saving
- Health: mental, physical, nutrition, and sex
- Navigate Government Services: Centrelink and Medicare
- Personal safety and self defence introduction
- Employer expectations, interview and resume preparation
